This was my first walk with the VMTC although this point is debatable according to club rules. As there were only two of us on the walk it should technically constitute a private walk for insurance purposes.
When I first selected this walk I thought it didn’t sound very exciting - let’s face it, the Mornington Peninsula is no Wilson's Prom or Otway’s! I was pleasantly surprised and found the walk satisfyingly strenuous. There is only a 20 minute section of walking in the south Rosebud suburbia with the majority bordering farmland, through national parks and coastal walking.
Although the maps suggest there is no camping available, the management strategy details a few options and permits can be arranged with the ranger’s station in Rosebud. I suspect due to the summer onslaught of visitors to the area each year, its best not to publish camp site on the map if they can’t be easily patrolled or regulated.
Saturday started at 08:00 with a car shuffle and we were walking at about 9:30. The climb over Arthur’s seat was a nice warm up and we chose to do the King Falls circuit which added approx 2k’s.
